Title: Campbell County Cares Hospitality Drive

Description: Centra Health recently opened the Rosemary & George Dawson Inn, a twenty-room facility that provides family-centered, home-style lodging and support services to the families of patients who are receiving medical treatment away from their own communities. As part of their outreach efforts, Campbell County Youth, Adult and Community Services are collecting donated items to ensure visitors to our area are comfortable in their time of need.

“The visitors of the Rosemary & George Dawson Inn are here for health or their family’s health reasons and many have traveled a great distance from their home,” notes Taryn Anthony, Community Volunteerism Program Manager. “It’s our sincere hope that through the Campbell County Cares Hospitality Drive, we can show our support by collecting basic supplies to help make their stay a bit more comfortable.”

The Campbell County Cares Hospitality Drive is scheduled to begin February 1 and is on-going throughout the entire month of February. Items may be delivered to the Youth, Adult and Community Services building located at 34 Rails End Lane in Rustburg , VA between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Types of items to donate include:

Non-perishable food items: cereal, canned soups, coffee, tea, creamer, sugar, artificial sweetener, bottled water;
Travel-sized toiletries: small soaps, shampoos, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, brushes, lotions, razors, shaving cream, sewing repair kits;
Bulk kitchen/paper items: paper towels/toilet paper, plastic wrap, wax paper, dish/dishwasher detergent, trash bags;
Linens: white queen size sheet sets, white bath and hand towels, white washcloths.

    iStock/Thinkstock(SAN JOSE, Calif.) -- Ray McDonald, defensive end for the San Francisco 49ers, has been booked on domestic violence charges, becoming the first NFL player to be arrested since league commissioner Roger Goodell instituted new penalties last week for domestic violence.

    On Thursday Goodell announced sweeping changes to the NFL domestic abuse policy, including a six game suspension for a first time offense and a potential lifetime ban on any subsequent offense.

  • NASCAR Driver Tony Stewart Will be Back on the Racetrack Sunday Night

    iStock/Thinkstock(ATLANTA) -- NASCAR driver Tony Stewart will be back in a race car Sunday night for the first time following a deadly accident.

    Stewart has taken three weeks off after his car struck and killed Kevin Ward Jr. on a Sprint Car Track.

    The racing community has welcomed him back, including NASCAR President Mike Helton, who said, "He's been a great asset to NASCAR and a great champion, so it's nice to have him back."

    Stewart has not been charged in Ward's death but the investigation is still ongoing.

  • Country Stars Take Center Stage on MDA Show of Strength

    Big Machine Label GroupRascal Flatts, Brad Paisley, LeAnn Rimes, Sara Evans and Nashville's Charles Esten all take center stage on this weekend's MDA Show of Strength Telethon.
