Title: Campbell County Cares Hospitality Drive

Description: Centra Health recently opened the Rosemary & George Dawson Inn, a twenty-room facility that provides family-centered, home-style lodging and support services to the families of patients who are receiving medical treatment away from their own communities. As part of their outreach efforts, Campbell County Youth, Adult and Community Services are collecting donated items to ensure visitors to our area are comfortable in their time of need.

“The visitors of the Rosemary & George Dawson Inn are here for health or their family’s health reasons and many have traveled a great distance from their home,” notes Taryn Anthony, Community Volunteerism Program Manager. “It’s our sincere hope that through the Campbell County Cares Hospitality Drive, we can show our support by collecting basic supplies to help make their stay a bit more comfortable.”

The Campbell County Cares Hospitality Drive is scheduled to begin February 1 and is on-going throughout the entire month of February. Items may be delivered to the Youth, Adult and Community Services building located at 34 Rails End Lane in Rustburg , VA between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Types of items to donate include:

Non-perishable food items: cereal, canned soups, coffee, tea, creamer, sugar, artificial sweetener, bottled water;
Travel-sized toiletries: small soaps, shampoos, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, brushes, lotions, razors, shaving cream, sewing repair kits;
Bulk kitchen/paper items: paper towels/toilet paper, plastic wrap, wax paper, dish/dishwasher detergent, trash bags;
Linens: white queen size sheet sets, white bath and hand towels, white washcloths.

    Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services(BALTIMORE) -- A Maryland murder suspect was mistakenly released from prison on Friday, and state corrections officials say they didn’t even know the man was missing until Sunday night.

    Rodriquez Purnell was awaiting trial on murder charges when he was released Friday evening from the Maryland Reception, Diagnostic and Classification Center in Baltimore.   • Fighter Jets Collide over Kansas, No Serious Injuries Reported

    AndersHP84/iStockphoto/Thinkstock(HOWARD, Kan.) -- A pair of F-16 fighter jets were involved in a mid-air collision on Monday in which one of the planes crashed and the pilot of the other was able to return to its base in Tulsa, Okla. and land safely.

    According to the Oklahoma National Guard, the planes collided over Howard, about 110 miles away from Tulsa. The two jets were taking part in a training exercise when at the time of the crash. The pilot whose plane crashed was able to eject and was recovered safely.

  • Garth Brooks Hosting Basketball Camp for Kids in Kentucky November 1

    Credit: Mark TuckerGarth Brooks and his charity organization Teammates for Kids will host a Basketball Pro-Camp for 100 youth in Lexington, Kentucky, on November 1.

    The camp coincides with Garth's run of concerts at Rupp Arena in Lexington. He's lined up University of Kentucky head coach John Calipari to lead the camp, and Garth will meet with the basketball campers, too.
