Title: Campbell County Cares Hospitality Drive

Description: Centra Health recently opened the Rosemary & George Dawson Inn, a twenty-room facility that provides family-centered, home-style lodging and support services to the families of patients who are receiving medical treatment away from their own communities. As part of their outreach efforts, Campbell County Youth, Adult and Community Services are collecting donated items to ensure visitors to our area are comfortable in their time of need.

“The visitors of the Rosemary & George Dawson Inn are here for health or their family’s health reasons and many have traveled a great distance from their home,” notes Taryn Anthony, Community Volunteerism Program Manager. “It’s our sincere hope that through the Campbell County Cares Hospitality Drive, we can show our support by collecting basic supplies to help make their stay a bit more comfortable.”

The Campbell County Cares Hospitality Drive is scheduled to begin February 1 and is on-going throughout the entire month of February. Items may be delivered to the Youth, Adult and Community Services building located at 34 Rails End Lane in Rustburg , VA between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Types of items to donate include:

Non-perishable food items: cereal, canned soups, coffee, tea, creamer, sugar, artificial sweetener, bottled water;
Travel-sized toiletries: small soaps, shampoos, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, brushes, lotions, razors, shaving cream, sewing repair kits;
Bulk kitchen/paper items: paper towels/toilet paper, plastic wrap, wax paper, dish/dishwasher detergent, trash bags;
Linens: white queen size sheet sets, white bath and hand towels, white washcloths.

    iStockphoto/Thinkstock(CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga.) -- Becoming the valedictorian of your high school is a difficult and impressive feat in itself, but it's even more impressive for a Georgia teen who did so while her family was homeless.

    Chelesa Fearce has a GPA of 4.466 and scored 1900 on her SATs, even though she and her family were without a home for most of her high school years. Sometimes they lived in shelters or inside her mother’s car. Fearce says it was tough at times.

    Stockbyte(NEW YORK) -- Philosophy professor Simon Critchley from New York City's New School said he believes that the only way to really learn how to live is to prepare to die.

    So, as part of a larger theatrical installation this spring called School of Death, he offered a suicide note writing workshop to anyone who was interested in appreciating its literary art form.

  • US Says Four Americans Killed by Drones in Counterterror Strikes

    Chris Maddaloni/CQ Roll Call(WASHINGTON) -- Attorney General Eric Holder has disclosed in a letter to Congress that four Americans were killed by U.S. drones in the course of the government's attacks on terrorists.
